Choosing a Breast Surgeon: Education, Credentials, Experience, Modern Technique (Part 2 of 2)

During your consultation, your surgeon should listen carefully to what you want to accomplish. While the surgeon should guide you about any unrealistic or risky expectations that you may have, you should always feel that the decision about your breast size and shape is yours to make. No surgeon should ever try to convince you to do something you don’t want to do.

Visit the doctor’s office to get a feeling of the facilities and the service. When we consult in my office with a new client, we treat her as a friend. Our staff is trained to make everyone feel welcome and comfortable. Does your surgeon’s staff do the same? How do you feel when you enter the office? Are you greeted by name? Is the office clean, organized, and efficient? You should never feel rushed or dismissed, and you should feel that the surgeon and staff are sensitive to your needs and concerns.

Modern Technique.Your surgeon’s medical facilities should be state-of-the-art. If you don’t know enough to know whether the facilities are top of the line, find out! If you speak to more than one surgeon, you will begin to see differences, and just a bit of Internet searching will give you an idea of the latest techniques and facilities. Our surgical facilities are certified by the highest standards set forth for ambulatory surgery. Find out if your surgeon’s facilities are also certified and accredited.

The latest techniques in breast augmentation surgery allow for less blunt force, less bleeding, less scarring, and less pain. In fact, I have created my own Pain-Free, Instant Recovery Breast Augmentation Procedure that allows my patients to return to their lives almost immediately. They can shower within two hours and go to dinner that very evening after the surgery. This technique reduces inflammation and swelling, and in a decade of performing the procedure, a grand total of three of my patients have required any form of narcotic pain medicine. This is why many patients travel from across the country to my Utah office for their breast enlargement.

When choosing a surgeon, find out about the estimated recovery period and the discomfort they expect you to experience. If it is significant, you should look elsewhere because this kind of pain is simply no longer necessary.

While it may feel daunting to choose a surgeon, it’s a very important decision. You want to get breast implants only once in your life, and you want the results to be beautiful. So, you owe it to yourself to take the time necessary to feel absolutely comfortable with your doctor. If you do your homework, ask questions, and find out all you can about your surgeon of choice, you will no doubt be thrilled with your breast augmentation. You deserve the best!
